Last Ball Game in SF

May 13, 2009

Seeing as how it’s my last week in SF, it’s only fitting to catch one last game at AT&T park as a “San Francisco Giants fan”.  As big an event as I tried to make it, everyone ended up flaking out or was too busy.  Good thing for me, Lauren (long time resident of SF, first time fan, first time ball-gamer) was the unsung hero and made it with me to the game for one last SF hoorah!  You couldn’t have asked for a better game to go to…especially someone’s last (or first if you’re Lauren)! Giants were up 2-0, then 5-2, and then went down 7-6 after a series of pitching mistakes in the 8th inning.  It came down to the 9th inning:  Two outs, two balls, and one strike and Pedro Sandoval (who earlier in the night earned himself a succession of boos from the crowd after face planting onto the dirt while rounding second), redeemed himself by slugging a walk off home run with 2 runners on-base to give the Giants a 9-7 win.  I couldn’t have asked for a better way to say goodbye to the Giants. Farewell AT&T park…and goodbye to SF garlic fries.

And no…the girlish scream is not coming from me (Lauren’s just really excited)

An afternoon walk

April 3, 2009

I haven’t taken a walk through golden gate park since moving to the UCSF mission bay campus, but I had to wait for the student affairs office to open this morning and decided to take a walk around.

Sunrises in San Francisco

March 27, 2009

Found this on my hard drive today while trying to encourage a friend to check out the scenery.  It’s kind of sad that I’ll be leaving this beautiful city in only 2 months!  Make sure you say goodbye if you haven’t already!

The Mission

March 14, 2009

Living at Mission Bay, it’s hard to get a feel for what San Francisco is really like.  Sure there’s Muni to take you around and the shuttles to-and-from Parnassus, but what about the rest of San Francisco?  There’s so much this city has to offer and I feel I’ve only scratched the tip of the iceberg.  Well…in hopes of getting more acquainted with this fabulous city before I left, today’s trip features the infamous Balmy Alley.  This little street in the Mission, (24th Street between Treat and Harrison St.), is lined with colorful murals.  Each one tells its own unique story…some political, others satirical, some playful, but all serving as an expression of the issues that affect the lives of those living in San Francisco, as well as the people living across the globe.  Precita eyes is an organization dedicated to maintaining and preserving these murals and they’ve done an absolutely fantastic job.
