Gearing up

May 8, 2009

After my Canon SD1000 broke in Asia, I wondered for a while whether or not I should even buy a new camera.  It sucks when you break a camera…especially a great one…but I figured I could sell my damaged camera on ebay for parts and try my hand at either the Panasonic LX3 or the Canon G10 (click here for Eric Cheng’s review).  That being said, I couldn’t decide between the two, but found a great deal on craigslist last night and couldn’t pass it up. So…

Took some test shots while hanging out in the park (or was it the beach?) today:

Conclusion:  Awesome camera! It’s going to take a little getting used to given all the knobs and dials, but I love it so far. If you can find a great deal on craigslist or have a bunch of store credit somewhere, it’s definitely worth it.  Just be aware of the fact that it’s not a “compact” camera…it’s actually a little bit of a monster.
